My name is Eve-Lynn Swan and I'm the sole bookkeeper doing business as Swans In A Row--yes, I like things orderly.
If you are here, you know enough about running your business or non-profit group to realize that hiring a bookkeeper could make a difference in the way your organization operates. Or maybe someone told you it would. Or that you must do it--or else.
You're ready to talk to someone, if they seem like the right sort, someone you can talk to, who seems to understand. But... How to tell that ??!
I suggest you read the rest of this site, maybe look at my profile on LinkedIn and the nice Google reviews and, if you like what you've read, scroll on down to the Contact section and send me a message.
Once we connect, we'll talk to each other on the phone. We'll discuss your needs, I'll tell you if I think I can help, and we'll go from there. If our chat goes well, the next step is an online client information survey and providing me with view-only access to your books. In return, I'll provide a report on what I see, whether we work together or not.
Congratulations on considering a change, by the way. I look forward to hearing from you.
How will you know whether to work with me or not?
One of the first things you may need to know is that bookkeeping is an unregulated service, which means that anyone can say they are a bookkeeper. There are no standards or required courses, either. If education and experience matter to you, then please review mine below. You may also download a summary CV. I'm a member of the Certified Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (cpbcan.ca), working on achieving certification.
Second, your bookkeeper should be able to self-regulate, manage their own time, meet deadlines. I do my own bookkeeping and file my taxes and HST and that gets done on time. More importantly, my client's work gets done on time, too.
Third, my journalism background and current part-time gig as an elementary-level tutor mean that I can explain accounting and bookkeeping concepts jargon free.
Fourth, I love process development, problem solving, and new apps (I've worked a bit with the Jane App. It's a great Canadian practice management tool). I'll use insights from business and data analysis to suggest improvements, free of charge. I try to read Canada Revenue bulletins and updates now and then, plus employment regulation newsletters, and I watch business-related webinars. I'll share what I've learned if I see a need.
I hope these points have helped you get to know me a bit. I think speaking with each other is important, so I look forward to talking to you if that seems to be the next best thing for you.
